...MEDFORD OREGON WEATHER REVIEW: October 2025...

High pressure ridge was over the West Coast states for the first
week of the month, resulting in hot and dry conditions to start
the month. Meanwhile monsoonal moisture continued to stream into
the region bringing thunderstorms to the area. A frontal system
moved through the region around 8th-10th, bringing a taste of fall
with cooler and wetter weather. This pattern persisted through
around the middle of the month, then high pressure resumed control
for much of the remainder of the month.

Dry conditions persisted until the last few days of the month.
Temperatures remained slightly above normal in the Medford area
until around the 23rd when high pressure strengthened over the
West Coast states. Meanwhile, a thermal trough along the coast
induced easterly flow across the region resulting in very dry
conditions. Once this thermal trough moved inland on the 24th,
this resulted in a high temperatures of 99 degrees in Medford.
This tied the old record of 99 degrees set in 1991. Additionally,
this offshore flow resulted in considerable growth on the Moon
Complex in far northeastern Curry County. This increased smoke
output considerably, and once the flow turned onshore on the 27th,
a push of smoke moved into the Rogue/Illinois/Applegate Valleys
and brought poor air quality to the region. Thankfully, this bout
of poor air quality was short lived as the first appreciable
frontal system of the fall season moved through the region on the
morning of the 29th, with another quick moving front on the 30th.
These fronts brought gusty winds and widespread wetting rainfall,
which put a significant dent in fire season.

The average temperature for the month was 71.1 degrees, which is
3.4 degrees above normal. The average maximum temperature was 86.4
degrees, which is 2.1 degrees above normal. The average minimum
temperature was 55.8 degrees, which is 4.6 degrees above normal.
The highest temperature for the month was 99 degrees which
occurred on the 4th and 24th. The lowest temperature for the
month was 45 degrees which occurred on the 27th.

There were 22 clear days, 6 partly cloudy days, and 2 cloudy
days.

Total precipitation for the month was 0.71 inches which is 0.23
inches above normal. Total precipitation for the water year
(beginning October 1st) is 21.95 inches which is 3.52 inches
above normal. Calendar year precipitation is 11.21 inches which
is 0.14 inches above normal.

The average wind speed for the month was 4 mph. The fastest
recorded two-minute wind speed was 22 mph from the west which
occurred on the 29th. The peak wind was 31 mph from the west
which also occurred on the 29th.

The highest pressure for the month was 30.16 inches on the 26th.
The lowest pressure for the month was 29.66 inches on the 5th.

High temperatures of 99 degrees on the 24th tied the old record of
99 degrees set in 1991.
