Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
140 PM SST Sun Jun 16 2024

.DISCUSSION...
Brief passing showers has been consistent throughout the day.
This is shown on the latest satellite imageries in the form of
open cell cumuli clouds streaming across the territory. This
phenomena and the easterly winds are associated with a high
pressure system to the south-southeast migrating east. Model
solutions show the aforementioned high pressure system lingering
in the area through at least Thursday before exiting the region
Thursday night. Passing showers with moderate to fresh easterlies
peaking at a strong breeze on Monday is expected for this time
frame.

Once this scenario plays out, another high pressure system to the
southwest will move south of the area, causing a change in wind
direction. Expect winds to turn southeast at moderate to fresh
breeze with isolated showers for Friday through the rest of the
forecast period.

There are no other significant threats of flash flooding,
thunderstorms, and major winds expected for this week.

.Marine...
The latest PacIOOs Aunu`u buoy data show heights around 6 to 8
feet with short periods less than 10 seconds. The moderate to
fresh easterlies continue to stir up the water surface, resulting
in wind-driven waves, producing choppy conditions for the small
crafts. Model data suggests that there is no significant swell
expected for this forecast period. However, easterly winds are
expected to reach a strong breeze on Monday. These strong winds
will elevate seas and thus, also enhancing surfs. The strong
breeze will decrease by Tuesday and so will the seas subside.
Moreover, the advisory for small crafts will remain in effect.
