Weather Summary for Puerto Rico
National Weather Service San Juan PR
514 PM AST Sun Aug 20 2017

Mostly cloudy skies prevailed across the local islands and
surrounding waters this afternoon. Doppler radar indicated
numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms across Puerto Rico
and the surrounding coastal waters. Several Flood Advisories,
Flash Flood Warnings and Special Weather Statements were issued
for numerous municipalities of Puerto Rico. Several Marine
Weather Statements were also issued due to frequent lightnings
across most of the coastal waters. Winds were mostly from the
east southeast at 15 to 20 mph with higher gusts especially near
showers and thunderstorms. Maximum temperatures this afternoon
ranged from the upper 80s to the lower 90s mostly along the
coastal areas.

The afternoon shower and thunderstorm activity was associated with
daytime heating and local effects in combination with the moisture
provided by a surface low pressure located a couple of hundred
miles northwest of Puerto Rico. The surface low will continue to
move west northwestward across the Atlantic waters away from the
local islands tonight. The shower and thunderstorm activity is
expected to diminish after sunset. Latest model guidance indicated
that a relatively drier air mass will move across the forecast
area early Monday Morning. However, the lingering moisture in
combination with daytime heating and local effects will be
sufficient to produce a round of showers and thunderstorms across
interior and western Puerto Rico Monday afternoon.

Mariners can expect seas between 5 to 7 feet with occasional seas
up to 9 feet and winds of 10 to 15 knots. Therefore, small Crafts
Advisories are in effect for the offshore Atlantic waters. In
addition, there is a moderate rip current risk across most of the
beaches in PR.
