...MENDENHALL LAKE NOW RECEDING...

THE MENDENHALL LAKE CRESTED AT 8.4 FEET AT 4 PM AKDT AND IS NOW
FALLING. THIS IS ABOVE THE BANKFULL LEVEL OF 8 FEET BUT BELOW THE
MINOR FLOOD STAGE OF 9 FEET. THE LAKE AND RIVER LEVELS WILL FALL
QUICKLY OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS DESPITE CONTINUED RAINFALL.

IT IS LIKELY THAT A GLACIAL DAMMED LAKE ABOVE THE MENDENHALL GLACIER
COMBINED WITH HEAVY RAIN OVER THE PAST 24 HOURS WAS THE CAUSE OF
WATER LEVELS TO RISE ON MENDENHALL LAKE AND RIVER.

THIS WILL BE THE FINAL STATEMENT ON THIS EVENT.
