...STRAIGHT LINE WIND DAMAGE IN GREENSVILLE AND SOUTHAMPTON
COUNTIES...

A SURVEY OF THE DAMAGE IN GREENSVILLE COUNTY /SOUTH AND SOUTHEAST OF
EMPORIA/...THEN EASTWARD ALONG RT. 58 THROUGH SOUTHAMPTON
COUNTY...HAS BEEN DESIGNATED AS STRAIGHT LINE WIND DAMAGE. THE
INITIAL DAMAGE WAS ON INTERSTATE 95...WHERE A COUPLE OF TREES WERE
DOWN ON THE ROADWAY. THE DAMAGE THEN CONTINUED EASTWARD SOUTH OF
EMPORIA...WITH TREES DOWN...SNAPPED OFF...AND SOME MINOR PROPERTY
DAMAGE...ESPECIALLY IN THE AREA OF LOW GROUND ROAD AND LITTLE LOW
GROUND ROAD.

IN SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY...THE FIRST SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE WAS SEEN WEST
AND SOUTHWEST OF ADAMS GROVE...WHERE NUMEROUS TREES AND POWER LINES
WERE DOWNED...AND NUMEROUS TREES WERE SNAPPED OFF. WINDS IN THIS
AREA WERE ESTIMATED TO BE AT LEAST 70 MPH. ADDITIONAL SIGNIFICANT
DAMAGE TO TREES AND POWER LINES OCCURRED IN THE CAPRON AREA...WHERE
A FEW HOMES SUSTAINED DAMAGE FROM FALLING TREES. SOME ADDITIONAL
DAMAGE TO TREES AND POWER LINES OCCURRED IN THE DREWRYVILLE AND
COURTLAND AREAS...THEN EASTWARD INTO THE FRANKLIN AREA.

HAIL WAS ALSO REPORTED OR EVIDENT IN THE DAMAGE PATH...WITH HAIL UP
TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER REPORTED IN THE CAPRON AND COURTLAND AREAS.
HAIL DAMAGE WAS ALSO EVIDENT IN THE ADAMS GROVE DAMAGE DESCRIBED
ABOVE.
