Above average temperatures was the big story for July.
Unlike June, which was a mixed bag of cool and warm temperatures,
July was on the warm side. In fact, only 3 days were below average,
the rest were average or warmer than average. The other outstanding
feature of July was how dry it was for Medford with all the
thunderstorms we saw around the region. We had a few days of
thunderstorm outbreaks near the end of July when a cutoff low sat
off the coast for 2 to 3 days. This generated thousands of cloud to
ground strikes across our county warning area. Luckily, fires and
smoke haven`t had massive impacts on the Rogue Valley. Most of this
can probably be attributed to the wet spring we saw.
