...START OF ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON...

TODAY MARKS THE FIRST DAY OF THE ATLANTIC BASIN HURRICANE SEASON
WHICH RUNS THROUGH NOVEMBER 30. LONG-TERM AVERAGES FOR THE NUMBER
OF NAMED STORMS...HURRICANES...AND MAJOR HURRICANES ARE
12...6...AND 3...RESPECTIVELY.

THE LIST OF NAMES FOR 2015 IS AS FOLLOWS:

                 NAMES

ANA HENRI ODETTE
BILL IDA PETER
CLAUDETTE JOAQUIN ROSE
DANNY KATE SAM
ERIKA LARRY TERESA
FRED MINDY VICTOR
GRACE NICHOLAS WANDA

FOR THE HURRICANE SEASON, WHICH OFFICIALLY RUNS FROM JUNE 1 TO NOVEMBER
30, NOAA IS PREDICTING A 70 PERCENT LIKELIHOOD OF 6 TO 11 NAMED STORMS
(WINDS OF 39 MPH OR HIGHER), OF WHICH 3 TO 6 COULD BECOME HURRICANES
(WINDS OF 74 MPH OR HIGHER), INCLUDING ZERO TO 2 MAJOR HURRICANES
(CATEGORY 3, 4 OR 5 IN THE SAFFIR SIMPSON HURRICANE WIND SCALE;
WINDS OF 111 MPH OR HIGHER). WHILE A BELOW- NORMAL SEASON IS LIKELY
(70 PERCENT), THERE IS ALSO A 20 PERCENT CHANCE OF A NEAR-NORMAL
SEASON, AND A 10 PERCENT CHANCE OF AN ABOVE-NORMAL SEASON.

REGARDLESS OF THE 2015 HURRICANE SEASON FORECAST...RESIDENTS OF
PUERTO RICO AND THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS MUST REMEMBER THAT IT ONLY
TAKES ONE TROPICAL STORM TO CAUSE A DISASTER. RESIDENTS MUST ALSO
REMEMBER THAT HEAVY RAINFALL AND FLASH FLOODING ARE NOT DIRECTLY
RELATED TO THE INTENSITY OF A TROPICAL CYCLONE. SOME OF THE
GREATEST RAINFALL AMOUNTS OCCUR WITH WEAKER STORMS THAT MOVE
SLOWLY OR STALL OVER AN AREA.

THE MONTHS OF JUNE AND JULY THE NORTHEAST CARIBBEAN TYPICALLY SEE
A MINIMUM IN TROPICAL CYCLONE ACTIVITY WITH OUR AREA BEING MOST
VULNERABLE TO TROPICAL CYCLONES DURING THE PERIOD OF AUGUST 20
THROUGH SEPTEMBER 15 WHEN MOST STORMS ORIGINATE IN THE AREA NEAR
THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS. NOW IS THE TIME TO REVIEW YOUR HURRICANE
PLANS.
