AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION FOR AMERICAN SAMOA AND INDEPENDENT SAMOA

.SHORT TERM...
.TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT...A WEAK SURFACE TROUGH TO THE EAST
OF MANUA WILL EVENTUALLY DISSIPATE SATURDAY EVENING. A HIGH PRESSURE
FROM YESTERDAY TO THE SOUTH OF THE REGION WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE EASTWARD
THROUGH THE REST OF THIS WEEK. THUS...COMPUTER MODELS HAVE NOW DOWNPLAYED
THE WIND SPEEDS TO NEAR 10 TO 15 KT DURING THE SHORT TERM FCST PERIOD.
YET...RELATIVELY DRY TRADES WILL CONTINUE TO PERSIST ACROSS THE REGION. AS
A RESULT...ANTICIPATE MINIMAL SHOWERS AND MODERATE TRADE-WINDS DURING
THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.

.LONG TERM...
.SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY...A SURFACE RIDGE TO THE SOUTH WILL YIELD
TO RELATIVELY DRY WEATHER CONDITIONS UNTIL MONDAY MORNING. A LOW-
LEVEL CONVERGENCE WILL GENERATE SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND
POSSIBLE TSTMS JUST NORTH OF THE SAMOAN ISLANDS DURING MONDAY. CLOUDS
AND RAINFALL FROM THIS WEATHER PATTERN WILL EITHER HIT OR MISS THE
FCST ZONES. FAR SOUTH...A STRONG HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM NEAR AUSTRALIA WILL
BUILD EASTWARD DURING THE LONG TERM FCST PERIOD. THE LEADING EDGE OF
THIS HIGH WILL MOVE CLOSER TO THE REGION STARTING TUESDAY. WILL MONITOR
THIS SITUATION AND PROVIDE UPDATES AS NEW MODELS BECOME AVAILABLE.
FOR NOW...ANTICIPATE MINIMAL SHOWERS OVER AMERICAN SAMOA AND SCATTERED
SHOWERS OVER UPOLU WESTWARD DURING 22/1800 UTC TO 23/1800 UTC.
