AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION FOR AMERICAN SAMOA AND INDEPENDENT SAMOA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PAGO PAGO AS
215 PM SST FRI MAY 26 2017

.SHORT TERM...
TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT...A HIGH PRESSURE TO THE SOUTHEAST IS
SLOWLY MIGRATING NORTHEAST. A WEAK SURFACE TROUGH SLIGHTLY TO THE
SOUTHWEST IS SLOWLY DESCENDING WEST SOUTHWEST. SATELLITE SHOWS
A LINE OF LOW CLOUDS EAST OF THE MANUA ISLANDS AND IS MOVING
TOWARDS THE ISLAND CHAIN. RAOB FROM THIS AFTERNOON DEPICTS A
STABLE PROFILE. MINIMUM SHOWERS WILL REMAIN ACROSS THE ISLANDS
DURING THE SHORT TERM AS HIGH PRESSURE CONTINUES TO HOLD STABLE
WEATHER DURING THE WEEKEND. HOWEVER...BREEZY EAST WINDS WILL
GREATLY IMPACT THE FORECAST AREA STARTING SATURDAY. THEREFORE
EXPECT ISOLATED SHOWERS AND BREEZY EAST WINDS IN THE NEXT FEW
DAYS.

.LONG TERM...
MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY...BREEZY EAST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO STRONG
AND GUSTY WINDS ON MONDAY. AS THE HIGH PRESSURE DESCENDS SOUTHEAST
ON TUESDAY...WINDS WILL SHIFT AND DIMINISH TO BREEZY NORTHEAST
WINDS. MODELS CONTINUE TO HOLD MOST OF THE MOISTURE UP NORTH.
THEREFORE EXPECT ISOLATED SHOWERS.
