Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
200 PM SST Fri Nov 17 2017

.Short term...
TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT...An active surface trough to the
west will move across the islands through tonight. Latest
satellite imageries are showing convective clouds producing flash
flood conditions across the area this evening through Saturday
morning. Expect numerous to occasional showers...heavy at times
with embedded thunderstorms, and gentle to moderate easterlies
with higher gusts in showers to persist through tonight. Given the
weather scenario, a flash flood watch is now in effect through
Saturday morning.

.Long term...
MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY...A broad area of high pressure to the
southwest will continue to push the aforementioned trough further
east by Saturday afternoon. This ridge will most likely dominate
weather features for the rest of the long term forecast period.
Expect gentle to moderate easterlies to diminish and an increase
in showers throughout the new week.

Wave Watch III model data are showing combined seas of 5 to 7 ft
through the new week. However, longer wave periods continue to
pound the shoreline as reflected by the recorded PacIOOs Aunu`u
Wave buoy data. Therefore, will continue advisories for high
surfs and small crafts through Saturday afternoon. Will continue
to monitor as the weekend approaches.

.A flash flood watch is in effect through 6 am Saturday morning.
.A High surf advisory remains in effect through Saturday.
.A Small craft advisory remains in effect through Saturday.
