FLOOD STATEMENT

...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following river in
western Indiana...

  Wabash River...



.Minor flooding and elevated river levels will continue through
the first week of August along the Wabash River in western Indiana.
Much of the river from Lafayette to Hutsonville will have been above
flood stage for more than 8 weeks.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river
conditions.

  The Wabash River at Lafayette.
* until further notice.
* At 12:16 PM Friday the stage was 12.4 feet.
* Flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to a stage of 12.4 feet
  by tomorrow morning.
* At 12.0 feet...High water affects a few low river cabins and county
  roads.

  The Wabash River at Covington.
* until Wednesday afternoon.
* At 11:45 AM Friday the stage was 16.7 feet.
* Flood stage is 16.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by
  early Wednesday morning.
* At 16.0 feet...Low agricultural lands begin to flood.  Backyard
  flooding of cottages on right bank starts a short distance upstream
  of gage.  Critical stage of Young-Neal Levee is reached.

* until late Tuesday night.
* At 11:45 AM Friday the stage was 16.2 feet.
* Flood stage is 14.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by
  Tuesday early afternoon.
* At 18.0 feet...Montezuma agricultural levee is overtopped.  Fourteen
  hundred acres of low bottomlands flood.  Lowest bottomlands flood.

The Flood Warning continues for
  The Wabash River at Terre Haute.
* until Tuesday morning.
* At 12:00 PM Friday the stage was 15.9 feet.
* Flood stage is 14.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by
  Monday evening.
* At 16.0 feet...Lowest river cabins across from the Wabash Generating
  Station begin to flood.  Flooding of agricultural land along U.S.
  63 north of Terre Haute, west bank of river and in southwest Vigo
  County occurs.  County roads flood in southwest Vigo county.  The
  wetland projects between US 40 and I-70 begin to slowly fill.

The Flood Warning continues for
  The Wabash River at Hutsonville Legacy Power Plant Site.
* until Thursday evening.
* Flood stage is 16.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river is forecast to have a maximum value of 19.0
  feet this afternoon.
* At 20.0 feet...Leaverton Park in Palestine and park in Hutsonville
  begins to flood.  Agricultural flooding spreads to higher land.
  Seep water is noticeable behind levees.  Some elevated river
  cottages are surrounded by water.  Several county or township roads
  east of Lincoln Heritage Trail between Palestine and Hutsonville in
  Crawford County Illinois are impassable.

* until Friday August 07.
* At 12:00 PM Friday the stage was 18.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by
  Thursday afternoon.
* At 18.5 feet...High water surround elevated river cabins.  County
  roads to these cabins are impassable.  Agricultural flooding is in
  progress.  Seep water develops behind levees.
