...Heavy Lake Effect Snow Update for Porter County...

An intense lake effect snow band continues to gradually
translate eastward across Porter County this afternoon. The focus
of the heaviest snowfall rates one to two inches per hour and
visibility of one quarter mile or less is shifting into the northeast
portion of the county as of 4:20 PM CST. This includes Chesterton
and areas from the east side of Valparaiso to the county line
through 5:30 PM CST. Elsewhere in the county, expect light snow
with moderate to brief heavy bursts over the next hour or so.

The combination of very low visibility and snow covered roads is
causing very hazardous travel conditions on area roadways, with
significant impacts to Interstate 80 and 94. Conditions vary
substantially over short distances in lake effect snow bands.
Motorists traveling through the affected area are urged to use
plenty of extra caution. Reduce speed and increase following
distance between your vehicle and other vehicles.
