259 FXUS63 KEAX 101724 AFDEAX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Kansas City/Pleasant Hill MO 1224 PM CDT Fri May 10 2024 .KEY MESSAGES... - Quiet weather is expected today and Friday with partly cloudy skies and highs in the 70s. -Showers and thunderstorms become possible Sunday and Monday. Additional minor flooding possible. -Additional showers and thunderstorms expected for the second half of next week. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 242 AM CDT Fri May 10 2024 Today: Overnight some light showers skirted the northeast corner of our forecast area thanks to a passing shortwave across the Great Lakes region. The impacts of this wave will shift out of the forecast area this morning, however we will remain in northwest flow, keeping us mild through the day today. Afternoon highs will reach the upper 60s to mid 70s across the forecast area, and most will see near average temperatures for early May. Otherwise expect a mostly quiet day with partly cloudy skies and northwest winds around 10-20 mph. Friday: Heading into Friday quiet weather is expected to continue through the day with continued northwest flow aloft. Temperatures will be a smidge warmer Friday afternoon with most reaching mid 70s. Some may even see upper 70s. Friday night, another weak wave traverses to our northeast. Impacts to our area look minimal, but cant completely rule our a passing shower for our far northeast corner overnight. The Weekend: On Saturday, upper 70s and sunny skies can be expected during the day, but our attention will turn to a deepening shortwave sliding off the Rockies in the evening and making its way toward our area. As it slowly slides east, showers and thunderstorms will become possible during the day Sunday. With warm air advecting into the area, precipitation will have little impact on temperatures with most reaching near 80 degrees on Sunday. Next Week: The system will be fairly slow shifting out of our forecast area with continued shower and thunderstorm activity expected through the day on Monday and possibly even into Monday night. Rainfall amounts will total around 0.5 - 1.25". These amounts may lead to some additional river flooding with a few rivers already running high. Quiet weather may briefly return for the mid week, but don`t expect it to last long with an active pattern returning for the second half of the week. Showers and thunderstorms will become possible again for Wednesday night into Friday as broader troughing impacts the area. && .AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z SATURDAY/...
