...Spring Flood and Water Resource Outlook for Central and much of
The late winter flood potential outlook for the White and Wabash
River basins in central and southern Indiana is near normal. A near
normal flood potential outlook means that significant rainfall is
necessary to cause extensive flooding in central and southern
As of March 5...stream levels in central and western Indiana were at
normal levels while those in southern Indiana were elevated
following rainfall of 1 to 2 inches on Tuesday and early Wednesday
morning. A major winter storm left up to 10 inches of snow in
extreme southern Indiana on Thursday. Snow depth values of 2 to
6 inches remain in central Indiana. Water equivalent of this snow
is around an inch or higher in most areas.
The recent cold pattern will end during the coming weekend.
Above normal temperatures are expected to persist through March
18. All of the snow in central and southern Indiana will melt by
Friday...March 13. Lowland flooding is possible the week of March 8.
Little or no rainfall is expected through March 11.
The 6 to 10 day outlook from March 10 to 14 and the 8 to 14 day
outlook from March 12-18 indicates above normal temperatures.
Rainfall is expected to be below normal to normal in central Indiana
and normal to slightly above normal in southern Indiana. Significant
flooding is not expected at this time.
Persons with interests in flood prone areas should remain alert to
daily weather conditions. Flood conditions can develop quickly during
late February and early March. Many of the significant floods to
strike Indiana have occurred during this time.
