AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION FOR AMERICAN SAMOA AND INDEPENDENT SAMOA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PAGO PAGO AS
138 PM SST WED MAR 4 2015

.SHORT TERM...
TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT...SATELLITE IMAGERIES SHOW INCREASING
CLOUD COVERAGE OVER THE MANUA ISLANDS. RAOB FROM THIS AFTERNOON
DEPICTS AN UNSTABLE PROFILE. MODELS SUGGEST THAT THE WEAK SURFACE
TROUGH EAST OF MANUA WILL SLOWLY MIGRATE WESTWARD ACROSS THE
ISLANDS EARLY THURSDAY MORNING. THE WEAK SURFACE TROUGH WILL
MATERIALIZE OVER THE ISLANDS ON THURSDAY AND LINGER THROUGHOUT THE
SHORT TERM. THEREFORE...WILL ADJUST THE PREVIOUS FCST TO REFLECT
THE NEW AND CURRENT MODEL OUTPUTS.

.LONG TERM...
SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY...THE WEAK TROUGH WILL CONTINUE TO
LINGER NEAR AND OVER THE ISLANDS UNTIL TUESDAY. AT THE SAME TIME
A STRONG SURFACE RIDGE EXPANDING FROM THE EAST WILL PUSH THE
TROUGH SOUTHWARD. WILL KEEP THE PREVIOUS FCST WHILE WAITING FOR A
FEW MORE MODEL RUNS.

&&

.MARINE...
STRONG SWELLS FROM THE SOUTH WILL ELEVATE SEAS ACROSS THE SAMOAN
WATERS ON TUESDAY. FOR NOW...SEAS OF 4 TO 6 FT WILL PERSIST
THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT.

&&

.PPG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
NONE.
