The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Central Richland County in central South Carolina...

* Until 545 PM EDT

* At 413 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
  heavy rain across the warned area. Up to one inch of rain has
  already fallen in only 15 minutes. This, along with additional
  rainfall, is expected to lead to flash flooding.  Street flooding
  is already being observed at the intersection of Main and Whaley
  streets.  Avoid this area. Flooding in other flood prone areas is
  expected. Motorists use caution.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Columbia, Forest Acres, Dentsville, Woodfields, St. Andrews,
  Arcadia Lakes, Five Points, Woodfield and Fort Jackson.


Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of the Five
Points area extending downstream along Rocky Branch Creek.  This
includes the areas of Maxcy Gregg Park, areas of USC along the creek,
intersection at Pickens and Blossom, intersection at Whaley and Main
and areas of the Olympia neighborhood along the creek.

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
