...Heat index values up to 115 degrees for Hidalgo County
this afternoon...

Heat will increase under a mid level ridge this afternoon. High
temperatures will range from the mid 90s near the coast to a few
degrees above the century mark inland, and will combine with dew
points in the 60s and 70s to produce heat index values or feels
like temperatures of up to 115 degrees for a few hours this

The highest heat index values will occur in Starr and Hidalgo
Counties, and values up to 115 degrees may develop in and around
McAllen for a few hours this afternoon. A heat advisory is in
effect for Starr and Hidalgo Counties from 1 pm until 6 pm,
advising that heat index values there will be 111 degrees or more
for at least two hours. Other areas will experience heat index
values from 105 to 110 degrees this afternoon.

Residents planning outdoor activities should drink plenty of
water, wear light weight and light colored clothing, and take
frequent breaks from the heat. Young children and pets should
never be left unattended in vehicles, but this is especially true
during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal
temperatures in a matter of minutes.
