The Risk for rip currents is low, however, life threatening rip currents often occur in the vicinity of the South Padre Island jetties. Remember to swim near a lifeguard. Lightning Risk: Moderate. Ultraviolet Index: Extreme. Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, and use sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher. Remain in the shade if possible. Outlook: An elevated risk of rip currents is possible from Wednesday night through the weekend due to increasing winds and building seas across the nearshore waters.
