The risk for rip currents is low, however, life threatening rip currents often occur in the vicinity of the South Padre Island jetties. Remember to swim near a lifeguard, if possible. Lightning Risk: Low Risk. Ultraviolet Index: Moderate. Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, and use sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher. Seek shade during the midday hours of 10 am to 4 pm. Weather: Cloudy with patchy fog in the morning. Slight chance of showers early in the morning, then chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation 30 percent. Temperatures: Mid 70s. Wind: North 10 to 15 mph, becoming east. Wave Heights: 2 to 3 feet. Surf Temperature: 60 degrees. Bay Temperature: 61 degrees. Tides: A low at 8 32 am. A high at 6 O7 pm. Outlook: An elevated risk of rip currents returns Friday and Saturday. Areas of morning fog and a chance of showers on Tuesday with the approach and passage of a weak front. Next chance of showers returns Friday and Saturday with a cold front. Temperatures warm into the upper 70s by the end of the week.
