Generally overcast conditions gave way to partially clearing
skies during the afternoon and evening Thursday, as weak high
pressure moved eastward across the central Midwest. High
temperatures ranged from 46 in Freeport and Independence, to 59 in
Fairfield and Keokuk.
A mix of starlit skies and clouds will be in place tonight, as
the high pressure slowly moves east over the southern Great Lakes.
Areas of patchy fog will be possible, especially in river valleys
and over areas of saturated ground during the early morning. Low
temperatures will drop into the middle 40s.
Mostly sunny skies, and warm temperatures, will occur during the
day Friday, as low pressure over northern Minnesota brings dry
air from the Great Plains over the region. Southerly winds will
increase to 15 to 25 miles per hour during the day, with gusts
approaching 40 miles per hour at times. High temperatures will
