...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1942, two violent F4 tornadoes tore through Northeast
Oklahoma.  The deadlier of the two twisters killed 52,
injured 350, and caused $2.5 million damage.  Its track
was 20 miles long, one quarter mile wide, and stretched
from Eastern Rogers to Western Mayes counties.Forty
nine of the fatalities occurred in Pryor, where one third
of the town was destroyed.  The second F4 tornado ripped
through Northern Rogers County.  It killed 4 and injured
12 over a path 15 miles long and around 200 yards wide.
