...EARLY SEASON COLD STORM TO AFFECT THE INTERIOR...

MOIST SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW THROUGH THURSDAY ACROSS INTERIOR ALASKA
WILL BRING FROM ONE TO TWO INCHES OF RAINFALL OVER A LARGE
AREA...WITH SOME LOCATIONS RECEIVING IN EXCESS OF TWO INCHES. THE
HIGHEST RAINFALL TOTALS ARE EXPECTED ON WEST FACING SLOPES OF THE
HIGHER TERRAIN. THIS INCLUDES THE UPLANDS BETWEEN THE TANANA AND
YUKON RIVERS...THE RAY MOUNTAINS...AND THE WESTERN ALASKA RANGE.

SIGNIFICANT WATER LEVEL RISES ARE EXPECTED ON STREAMS AND RIVERS
ACROSS THE INTERIOR THIS WEEK. RAPID RISES ARE POSSIBLE BEGINNING
WEDNESDAY ON SMALLER STREAMS IN THE HIGHER TERRAIN...AND SOME
RIVERS MAY REACH BANKFULL LEVELS ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. THIS
INCLUDES THE CHENA...CHATANIKA...BEAVER CREEK...AND SALCHA RIVER
BASINS. THERE IS STILL SOME UNCERTAINTY IN THE LOCATION OF THE
HEAVIER RAINFALL AND WATER MAY GO OVERBANK IN SOME LOW LYING
LOCATIONS. GRAVEL BARS WILL BE INUNDATED AND INCREASED DEBRIS
WILL BE MOVING DOWN SOME RIVERS. LARGER RIVERS SUCH AS THE TANANA
AND YUKON WILL RISE THROUGH THE WEEKEND BUT WILL REMAIN BELOW
BANKFULL.

COLD AIR ASSOCIATED WITH THIS STORM SYSTEM WILL PUSH INTO THE
INTERIOR THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY. CAUSING SNOW LEVELS TO
GRADUALLY DECREASE. SNOW LEVELS WILL DROP TO PASS LEVEL IN DENALI
NATIONAL PARK...AS WELL AS ELSEWHERE IN THE EASTERN ALASKA RANGE.
ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL IS POSSIBLE THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY
MORNING IN THE ALASKA RANGE. IT IS ALSO POSSIBLE THAT THERE MAY BE
A MIX OF RAIN AND SNOW THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY ACROSS THE
FOURTYMILE COUNTRY AS WELL AS IN THE HILLS NORTH OF
FAIRBANKS...ALTHOUGH SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE NOT EXPECTED IN THESE
AREAS. LOW TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE 30S ON FRIDAY MORNING
ACROSS MOST OF THE INTERIOR...WITH TEMPERATURES APPROACHING
FREEZING ACROSS THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS.
