.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Monday)
Issued at 234 PM EDT Sun Apr 21 2024
The light rain and overcast conditions will gradually taper from
west to east through the remainder of the afternoon. Clearing skies
are already widespread just across the border in Alabama as a drier
airmass spreads eastward. This clearing trend should allow the
chilly temperatures across portions of west/northwest Georgia
(currently in the upper 40s to lower 50s) to rebound a bit this
afternoon. Still, temperatures will struggle to approach the 60
degree mark through the remainder of the day across much of north
Georgia. The incoming drier, cooler airmass will bring much chillier
overnight temperatures, particularly to north Georgia where lows
will dip into the upper 30s for a number of locations by Monday
morning. The coldest temperatures will be in the northeast Georgia
mountains where mid 30s are forecast. While winds will remain fairly
elevated and prevent widespread frost formation, a Frost Advisory
covers Fannin, Union, and Towns counties where winds will taper
early Monday morning and could lead to areas of frost, particularly
in protected areas.
Surface high pressure will settle into the region on Monday bringing
mostly sunny skies. High temperatures will remain some 6-10 degrees
below normal, ranging from the mid 60s to near 70 degrees. With high
pressure overhead bringing calm winds and clear skies, temperatures
Monday night will again be on the chilly side, ranging from the
upper 30s to mid 40s across the area.

.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday morning through next Saturday)
Issued at 234 PM EDT Sun Apr 21 2024
Quasi zonal flow in mid mid levels early in the week turns more NW
by late week as ridging builds in the center part of the county. The
ridge will shift eastward and remain overhead through the weekend.
The models are progging two strong pieces of shortwave energy to
impact the CWA in the long term, one late Wednesday/early Thursday
and the second for the weekend. At the surface, high pressure
overhead on Tuesday will begin to shift offshore by early Wednesday
as a weak boundary approaches from the north. The boundary is
progged to sag southward as a back door front through the remainder
of the weekend with a wedge building in from the NE.
Thursday`s surface boundary doesn`t look to have a lot of moisture
associated with it, but it could bring some small potential for
precipitation. Will have to watch the shortwave diving down in the
flow during this period, as it could interact with the front
providing more lift than currently forecast. The models are
currently dry. The shortwave energy for the weekend could also
provide just enough lift within the wedge for very light precip.
