Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
209 PM SST Mon Jan 15 2018

.Short term...
TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT...A convergence to the northeast
will spread numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms across the
islands tonight. RAOB from this afternoon depicts a conditional
unstable profile. A surface trough to the south southwest will
continue southwest. A high pressure farther south will slowly move
east during the week. The convergence will remain across the
islands tonight through Wednesday. Winds will again diminish to
variable on Wednesday night as a shortwave trough moves west.
Therefore, expect numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms
tonight through Wednesday. On Wednesday night, showers will
subside to scattered and winds to light and variable.

.Long term...
THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY...The high pressure farther south will
strengthen on Friday and enhance east winds across the islands on
Friday morning. New resolutions are now holding most of the
moisture to the north while scattered showers continue to pass
across the islands during the long term.

Southeast swells will elevate seas above advisory thresholds on
Thursday morning before dropping back below on Friday night. No
other significant swells are expected.
