AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION FOR AMERICAN SAMOA AND INDEPENDENT SAMOA

.SHORT TERM...
.TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT...A DIFFUSED MONSOON TROUGH AXIS OVER
UPOLU AND TUTUILA WILL MOVE EASTWARD TOWARD MANUA TONIGHT. THE
EXISTING MONSOON TROUGH WILL TRIGGER SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS SHOWERS
AND POSSIBLE TSTMS ACROSS UPOLU EASTWARD UNTIL MONDAY MORNING. THE
TRADE-WIND WEATHER PHENOMENON TO THE SOUTH WILL SWEEP CLOUDS AND
SCATTERED LIGHT SHOWERS NEAR TUTUILA WESTWARD STARTING TUESDAY. AS
A RESULT...ANTICIPATE NORTHWEST WINDS OF 10 TO 20 KT WITH HIGHER GUSTS
IN SHOWERS DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. EXPECT MINIMAL SHOWER
COVERAGE AFTER MONDAY.

.LONG TERM...
.WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY...A MONSOON TROUGH NEAR MANUA WILL DESCEND
TOWARD THE MAIN SAMOAN ISLAND CHAIN DURING THE NEW YEAR/S HOLIDAY. IN
TRANSLATION...NUMEROUS TO FREQUENT SHOWERS ARE POSSIBLE AS THE
MONSOON TROUGH DRIVES CLOSER TO APIA AND PAGO PAGO JUST BEFORE THE
END OF THE WEEK. AS FOR NOW...WILL KEEP THE PREV FCST THE SAME.
THE TRADE-WIND WEATHER WILL RETURN STARTING WEDNESDAY. THUS...ANTICIPATE
ISOLATED SHOWERS AND EAST WINDS OF 10 TO 15 KT OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL
DAYS

.MARINE...COMBINED SEAS OF 10 TO 12 FEET WILL GRADUALLY DROP TO
