WEATHER SUMMARY FOR PORTIONS OF THE CENTRAL PLAINS
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HASTINGS NE
538 AM CST FRI JAN 23 2015

PRIOR TO SUNRISE EARLY FRIDAY MORNING...TRANQUIL WEATHER CONDITIONS
PREVAILED OVER THE LOCAL AREA OF SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA AND NORTH
CENTRAL KANSAS...WITH ESSENTIALLY CLOUDLESS SKIES AND LIGHT BREEZES
NO MORE THAN 5 TO 10 MPH. AS OF 5 AM...TEMPERATURES ACROSS MOST OF
THE LOCAL AREA WERE SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 18 AND 24 DEGREES. TURNING TO
THE FORECAST...THE BIG STORY OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS CONTINUES TO
BE AN IMPRESSIVE STREAK OF ABOVE AVERAGE TEMPERATURES...ALONG WITH
VERY LITTLE...IF ANY RISK OF MEASURABLE PRECIPITATION. IN FACT...AS
IT CURRENTLY STANDS...THE ONLY MENTIONABLE RISK OF PRECIPITATION
DURING THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS INVOLVES A CHANCE OF SPRINKLES ON
SATURDAY EVENING...PRIMARILY NORTH AND EAST OF THE NEBRASKA TRI
CITIES. FOCUSING SOLELY ON TODAYS WEATHER...EXPECT HIGH TEMPERATURES
THIS AFTERNOON TO RANGE SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 49 AND 53 DEGREES. SKIES
WILL AVERAGE MOSTLY SUNNY TO PARTLY CLOUDY...AS BREEZES PREVAIL FROM
A WESTERLY DIRECTION AT 10-15 MPH WITH SOME HIGHER GUSTS POSSIBLE
MAINLY THIS AFTERNOON. LOOKING AHEAD TO THE WEEKEND...HIGH
TEMPERATURES ON BOTH SATURDAY AND SUNDAY ARE FORECAST TO REACH THE
50S ACROSS THE MAJORITY OF THE LOCAL AREA...WITH SOME LOW 60S
POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY IN NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS. THESE VERY MILD
READINGS BY JANUARY STANDARDS THEN CONTINUE WELL INTO NEXT
WEEK...WITH HIGHS MAINLY IN THE MID TO UPPER 50S IN SOUTH CENTRAL
NEBRASKA...AND SOME 60S MORE COMMON IN NORTHERN KANSAS. FINALLY BY
NEXT THURSDAY...A MODEST COOL-DOWN INTO THE 40S IS EXPECTED FOR MOST
AREAS...BUT THIS IS STILL ABOVE NORMAL FOR LATE JANUARY. FOR THOSE
FOLKS OUT THERE WHO MAY ACTUALLY BE GROWING TIRED OF THIS MILD AND
SNOW-FREE WEATHER...THERE ARE HINTS OF A MORE SUBSTANTIAL COOL-DOWN
ARRIVING TOWARD THE BEGINNING OF FEBRUARY...BUT AT LEAST FOR
NOW...THERE ARE CERTAINLY NO CLEAR SIGNALS FOR POTENTIAL
ACCUMULATING SNOW IN OUR NEAR FUTURE.
