WEATHER SUMMARY FOR PORTIONS OF THE CENTRAL PLAINS
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HASTINGS NE
616 AM CDT MON JUL 21 2014

DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS...DRY AND NOTICEABLY WARM CONDITIONS
DOMINATED SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA AND NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS UNDER
MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES. AROUND SUNRISE...TEMPERATURES WERE STILL WELL
INTO THE 70S ACROSS MOST OF THE AREA...EXCEPT FOR SOME 60S IN
NORTHERN AND WESTERN CITIES SUCH AS ORD AND LEXINGTON. ALSO IN THE
ORD AREA...SOME PATCHY FOG WAS PRESENT EARLY THIS MORNING.
FORECAST-WISE...BY FAR THE BIGGEST STORY THESE NEXT FEW DAYS WILL BE
A CONTINUED BLAST OF MID-SUMMER HEAT. ALTHOUGH SUNDAY FEATURED A
NOTICEABLE INCREASE IN BOTH HEAT AND HUMIDITY...CONDITIONS TODAY
WILL RISE TO ANOTHER LEVEL...AS ACTUAL AIR TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE
LOCAL AREA ARE FORECAST TO TOP OUT SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 96 AND 104
DEGREES...WITH THE LOWER END OF THIS RANGE FOCUSED NORTHEAST OF THE
TRI CITIES...AND THE HIGHER END CONCENTRATED MAINLY NEAR AND SOUTH
OF THE NEBRASKA AND KANSAS BORDER. HOWEVER...DUE TO HIGH DEWPOINTS
AND RESULTANT HUMIDITY LEVELS...THE ENTIRE AREA WILL OBSERVE FAIRLY
UNIFORM HEAT INDEX READINGS SOARING TO AROUND 105 DEGREES OR
SLIGHTLY HIGHER...ESPECIALLY BETWEEN 3 AND 7 PM. AS A RESULT...THE
FIRST HEAT ADVISORY OF THE SUMMER IS IN EFFECT TODAY FOR THE LOCAL
AREA...AND FOLKS ARE ENCOURAGED TO USE CAUTION WHILE WORKING OR
PLAYING OUTSIDE. AS FOR PRECIPITATION CHANCES DURING THE NEXT 24
HOURS...THERE IS A SLIGHT CHANCE FOR A FEW SHOWERS AND STORMS
TONIGHT...BUT COVERAGE WOULD LIKELY BE SPARSE AT BEST. TURNING TO
TUESDAY...ANOTHER HOT DAY IS IN STORE...ESPECIALLY IN SOUTHERN
PORTIONS OF THE AREA WHERE TEMPERATURES COULD AGAIN EXCEED 100
DEGREES...BUT IN NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE AREA A WEAK COLD FRONT
WILL KEEP THINGS AT LEAST A TOUCH COOLER WITH TEMPERATURES ACROSS
MOST OF SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA TOPPING OUT IN THE LOW TO MID 90S.
ANOTHER HEAT ADVISORY IS POSSIBLE FOR TUESDAY AFTERNOON...WITH THE
MOST LIKELY AREA LIKELY TO FOCUS SOUTH OF A LINE FROM YORK TO ALMA
NEBRASKA...INCLUDING NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS. FORTUNATELY...THIS BLAST
OF FAIRLY INTENSE HEAT WILL BE RATHER SHORT-LIVED...AS WEDNESDAY
WILL BRING MORE TOLERABLE TEMPERATURES ONLY RANGING FROM THE MID 80S
NORTH OF INTERSTATE 80...TO THE LOW 90S IN NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS.
