AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION FOR AMERICAN SAMOA AND INDEPENDENT SAMOA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PAGO PAGO AS
213 PM SST SAT AUG 27 2016

.SHORT TERM...
TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT...SATELLITE IMAGERIES SHOW SCATTERED
LOW CLOUDS OVER THE ISLANDS. RAOB FROM THIS AFTERNOON DEPICTS A
STABLE PROFILE. ASCAT SWATH FROM THIS MORNING REVEALED STRONG
TRADES OVER THE SAMOAN ISLANDS. STRONG HIGH PRESSURE TO THE SOUTH
WILL CONTINUE TO MIGRATE EASTWARD. DRY SUBSIDENCE ALOFT WILL
SUPPRESS CONVECTIONS ACROSS THE SAMOAN ISLANDS DURING THE SHORT
TERM. HOWEVER AS THE HIGH PRESSURE MOVES EASTWARD...TRADES WILL
SHIFT TO THE EAST AND DIMINISH TO BREEZY CONDITIONS ON SUNDAY
MORNING. EAST WINDS WILL LATER DIMINISH TO GENTLE CONDITIONS ON
MONDAY NIGHT. THEREFORE...EXPECT ISOLATED SHOWERS AND A GRADUAL
DIMINISHING AND SHIFTING OF THE TRADES DURING THE SHORT TERM.

.LONG TERM...
TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY...SURFACE TROUGH FROM THE NORTHEAST WILL
MOVE ACROSS THE ISLANDS ON TUESDAY AND REMAIN THROUGH THURSDAY
NIGHT. ANOTHER HIGH PRESSURE FROM THE SOUTHWEST WILL AGAIN
GENERATE TRADES ON FRIDAY MORNING AND GRADUALLY BUILD ON SATURDAY.
EXPECT...SCATTERED SHOWERS WITH LIGHT AND VARIABLE WINDS DURING
MOST OF THE NEW WEEK. TRADES WILL GRADUALLY INCREASE DURING THE
WEEKEND.

&&

.MARINE...
SEAS OF 9 TO 12 FT WILL PERSIST ACROSS THE ISLANDS TONIGHT. WITH
THE GRADUAL DIMINISH OF THE WINDS...SEAS WILL ALSO SUBSIDE 7 TO 9
FT ON SUNDAY BEFORE DROPPING BELOW ADVISORY LEVELS ON MONDAY
NIGHT. NO OTHER SIGNIFICANT SWELLS ARE EXPECTED DURING THE
FORECAST PERIOD.

&&

.PPG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MONDAY NIGHT.
SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MONDAY NIGHT.
