...New Flood Forecast Point for the Cannon River at Northfield
(NRFM5), effective January 10, 2018...

The National Weather Service (NWS) Forecast Office, and the North
Central River Forecast Center, both located in Chanhassen, MN, will
begin river forecast services for the Cannon River at Northfield
(NRFM5), on January 10, 2018. This will be a high water only
forecast point, meaning forecasts will be issued when river levels
are currently or forecast to reach Action Stage (see below). The
reach, or area covered by this point, is primarily the cities of
Northfield and Dundas near the Cannon River.

The NWS has coordinated with city and county officials to determine
the following flood stages for the Cannon River at Northfield:

Action Stage:           895.0 Feet
Minor Flood Stage:      897.0 Feet
Moderate Flood Stage:   899.0 Feet
Major Flood Stage:      900.0 Feet

The NWS will issue the appropriate Flood Watches and Flood Warnings
for this forecast point when forecast conditions are expected to
exceed the above levels.

The river gage measurements are taken by the United States
Geological Survey (USGS), and transmitted every hour via satellite
through the NOAA Hydrometeorological Automated Data System (HADS).
