...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

IN 1887, A PRAIRIE FIRE DEVELOPED NEAR NICODEMUS IN GRAHAM COUNTY,
KANSAS. PUSHED BY WEST WINDS AROUND 40 MPH, THE FIRE CAUSED NINE
DEATHS AND A LARGE AMOUNT OF PROPERTY DAMAGE. THE FIRE EVENTUALLY
REACHED ROOKS AND PHILLIPS COUNTIES.

IN 1922, A BLIZZARD OCCURRED IN CHEYENNE COUNTY, KANSAS. SNOW DRIFTS
OF FOUR TO FIVE FEET DEVELOPED IN SAINT FRANCIS.

IN 1935, A DUST STORM MOVED ACROSS GREELEY COUNTY DURING THE
MORNING. THE STORM WAS SO INTENSE THAT IT HALTED A MURDER TRIAL BEING
HELD IN TRIBUNE.

IN 1995, SNOW AND STRONG WINDS CLOSED ROADS AND SCHOOLS. SNOWFALL
AMOUNTS WERE NINE INCHES 2 MILES SOUTH OF GOODLAND, SIX INCHES IN
ATWOOD, SEVEN INCHES 9 MILES SOUTHEAST OF BIRD CITY, AND SIX
INCHES IN BREWSTER, MCDONALD AND SAINT FRANCIS.
