938 FNUS53 KMQT 110958 FWFMQT FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UPPER MICHIGAN National Weather Service Marquette MI 558 AM EDT Sat May 11 2024 ...Gradually drying and clearing... .DISCUSSION: Showers over the east and north central this morning alongside cloudy skies across Upper Michigan will gradually diminish today. This is because the clipper low pressure system currently over northern Lower Michigan departs to the southeast today and weak high pressure builds in. High are expected in the upper 40s to mid 60s with cooler temperatures over the east due to northwest flow off Lake Superior as well as lingering cloud cover. This dry period will result in min RHs in the 30s over the west with some spots approaching upper 20s in the south central interior. While northwest winds gusting to 20 mph are expected this afternoon, we ride the edge of borderline fire weather concerns. RHs make a near full recovery over the east half tonight and showers increase from the west late tonight. Min RHs drop into the 40s on Sunday with gusts up to 20-25 mph. A cold front Sunday afternoon brings shower and thunderstorm chances to most of the Upper Peninsula. Once showers end Sunday night, a dry period begins for early next week.
