AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION FOR AMERICAN SAMOA AND INDEPENDENT SAMOA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PAGO PAGO AS
209 PM SST WED APR 26 2017

.SHORT TERM...
.TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT...A NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST ORIENTED
SURFACE TO MID LEVEL TROUGH TO THE SOUTHWEST OF THE SAMOAN
ISLANDS WILL MOVE BACK OVER THE ISLANDS AND DOMINATE THE RIDGING
TO THE EAST OF MANU`A. THIS TROUGH WILL REMAIN STATIONARY ACROSS
THE ISLANDS THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT...AND WILL PREVENT THE HIGH
PRESSURE SYSTEM TO THE EAST OF MANUA`A TO MOVE OVER THE SAMOAN
ISLANDS. THEREFORE...EXPECT INCREASING RAINFALL AND POSSIBLE TSTMS
THROUGHOUT THE SHORT TERM PERIOD.

LIGHT TO VARIABLE WINDS WILL PREVAIL...HOWEVER...GUSTY AT TIMES
WITH EMBEDDED SHOWERS ESPECIALLY DURING THUNDERSTORM EVENTS.

.LONG TERM...
.SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY...A HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM TO THE
SOUTHWEST OF THE SAMOAN ISLANDS WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD AS IT MOVES
EASTWARD. GENTLE TO MODERATE EASTERLIES WILL PREVAIL THROUGHOUT
THE LONG TERM PERIOD.

&&

.MARINE...
.WAVE WATCH III MODELS SUGGESTS COMBINED SEA LEVELS BELOW ADVISORY
THRESHOLDS. HOWEVER...PACIOOS BUOY OBSERVATIONS SUGGESTS
OTHERWISE. IN ADDITION TO OBSERVATIONS...WAVE PERIODS REMAINED HIGH
AND THIS IS LARGELY DUE TO SOUTHERLY SWELLS FROM A PREVIOUS GALE LOW
CENTERED NORTHEAST OF NEW ZEALAND.

&&

.PPG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
.HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT.
.SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT.
