Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
218 PM SST Wed Oct 18 2017

.Short term...
TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT...Active surface trough slightly
north of the islands is slowly descending south. RAOB from this
afternoon depicts a conditional unstable profile. The jet streak
aloft will slightly shift south of the islands tonight. Models
suggest that the active trough will at times produce heavy showers
over the islands late tonight and Thursday. The trough will move
south on Friday morning.

.Long term...
SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY...A surface ridge to the east of Manu`a
will destabilize the surface trough. This will allow a high
pressure system southwest of the area to build eastward into the
weekend thus allowing gentle to moderate tradewinds to return
Saturday night and Sunday. Will continue to monitor this situation
and provide updates. For now...anticipate warmer conditions and
isolated to scattered showers across the area.

Seas will persist below advisory levels in the next several days.
No significant swells are expected through the new week.
