...Forecast Flooding Changed from Minor to Moderate Severity for the
following rivers in Southwest Lower Michigan...
  Kalamazoo River At Comstock affecting Kalamazoo County

.Runoff from recent heavy rainfall continues to cause a rapid rise in
water levels along the Kalamazoo River. The latest forecast takes the river
into moderate flooding. Additional rainfall late tonight and Friday morning
is expected to be light and should not have an impact on river levels.

The following forecast is based on observed and forecast 48 hour


Safety message...Even 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock
you off your feet... and a depth of 2 feet will float your car.
Never try to walk... swim... or drive through such swift water.  If
you come upon flood waters... stop... turn around and go another way.

This warning will be in effect until the river falls below its flood

...Forecast flooding increased from Minor to Moderate severity...
The flood warning continues for
  the Kalamazoo River At Comstock.
* until Tuesday morning.
* At  7:15 AM Thursday the stage was 9.2 feet.
* Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
* Minor Flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast, the river will continue rising to near 10.1 feet by late
  Friday evening. The river will fall below flood stage Monday
* Impact, at 10.0 feet...Expect moderate flooding of homes along
  Portage Creek, near Gull Street and Recreation Park. Industrial
  areas in Kalamazoo begin to flood.
* Flood history, this crest compares to a previous crest of 10.0 feet
  on Apr 22 1975.
