Weather Summary for Puerto Rico
National Weather Service San Juan PR
515 PM AST Sat Mar 25 2017
Mostly cloudy skies prevailed across the forecast area with
showers observed across the eastern coastal areas as well as
Vieques and Culebra. Temperatures along the coastal areas were
in the upper 70s to low 80s. Some locally induced showers still
possible through the late afternoon and early evening hours.
Environmental conditions are favorable and conducive for periods
of showers with thunderstorms through early the upcoming week due
to the proximity of a mid to upper level trough and plenty of low
level moisture. As this feature weakens Monday and into Tuesday,
the low level moisture across the local islands is expected to
erode. Therefore, through at least Monday, continue to expect
shower activity across east and southeast Puerto Rico at times
with afternoon convection over and north of the Cordillera Central
each day. A fair weather pattern with limited shower activity is
expected by midweek. Soils are already saturated, therefore heavy
rains will likely to result in urban flooding as well as rises
along small streams and rivers.
Hazardous seas will continue to prevail across the local waters as
a north northwest swell continues to affect the area. Seas 10 to
12 feet overnight, but subsiding on Sunday. A high surf advisory
is in effect for the northwest to northeast shoreline of Puerto
Rico with a high risk of rip current in effect for the northwest
to northeast facing beaches of Puerto Rico and Culebra.
