The National Weather Service in Newport has issued a

* Special Marine Warning for...
  Pamlico Sound...

* Until 615 PM EDT.

* At 540 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing
  waterspouts was located 9 nm southwest of Pea Island National
  Wildlife Refuge, or 11 nm west of Rodanthe, moving east at 20
  knots.

  HAZARD...Waterspouts, wind gusts to nearly 50 knots, and large
           hail.

  SOURCE...Radar.

  IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally
           hazardous seas. Small craft could be damaged in briefly
           higher winds and suddenly higher waves. Large hail could
           result in structural damage.

* Locations impacted include...
  Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge and Rodanthe.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this storm passes.
Wind gusts to nearly 50 knots, large hail, high waves, dangerous
lightning, and heavy rain are possible with this storm.

Thunderstorms can produce sudden waterspouts. Waterspouts can easily
overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Seek safe harbor
immediately.
