Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
156 PM SST Tue Aug 15 2017

.Short term...
TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT...Latest satellite imagery shows a
broad area of clouds with isolated thunderstorms streaming across
the islands, especially across Upolu, this afternoon. These
showers are forecast to move Southeast through tonight, bringing
showers with thunderstorms likely across the forecast area
overnight. Current model data show a front near Fiji moving
across the Samoan islands Wednesday through Thursday. This frontal
passage will bring additional showers across the area through the
short term.

Moderate to strong and gusty Northeasterlies will prevail across
the area through Wednesday morning. Then winds will gradually
diminish and become light and variable by Wednesday afternoon
through the remainder of the short term.

.Long term...
FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY...Current model data show a high pressure
strengthening far Southwest...pushing the aforementioned front
across the islands. This high pressure will dominate weather
conditions over the weekend, bringing back moderate to possibly
fresh easterlies with periods of showers across the territory.

Current Wave Watch III model solutions show seas remaining above
advisory criteria through Wednesday largely due to the strong
winds. The seas will gradually subside to below advisory
thresholds by Wednesday afternoon, along with the diminishing
winds. Hence, will stick with previous plan of canceling
advisories Wednesday afternoon.

High Surf Advisory remains in effect
Small Craft Advisory remains in effect
