AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION FOR AMERICAN SAMOA AND INDEPENDENT SAMOA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PAGO PAGO AS
200 PM SST TUE MAY 24 2016

.SHORT TERM...
TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT...SATELLITE IMAGERIES SHOW
SCATTERED LOW CLOUDS OVER THE ISLANDS AND AN ACTIVE SURFACE TROUGH
TO THE NORTHEAST. RAOB FROM THIS AFTERNOON DEPICTS A CONDITIONAL
UNSTABLE PROFILE. MODELS SUGGEST THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE TO THE
SOUTH WILL CONTINUE EASTWARD SLOWLY. ACTIVE SURFACE TROUGH TO THE
NORTHEAST WILL REMAIN NEARLY STATIONARY THROUGHOUT THE SHORT TERM.
GENTLE TRADES WILL INCREASE TO BREEZY CONDITIONS ON THURSDAY
MORNING AS THE HIGH MIGRATES EASTWARD WHILE STRENGTHENING.
SCATTERED SHOWERS WILL PERSIST TONIGHT BEFORE REDUCING TO ISOLATED
CONDITIONS ON WEDNESDAY MORNING.

.LONG TERM...
FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY...ANOTHER HIGH PRESSURE TO THE SOUTH WILL
MAINTAIN ISOLATED SHOWERS AND BREEZY EAST WINDS THROUGHOUT THE
LONG TERM. MODELS ARE NOW HOLDING ABUNDANT MOISTURE TO THE NORTH
THROUGHOUT THE LONG TERM. THEREFORE...NO CHANGES TO THE LONG TERM.

&&

.MARINE...
SEAS OF 5 TO 7 FT WILL PERSIST TONIGHT BEFORE ELEVATING 7 TO 9 FT
ON THURSDAY MORNING. WITH BREEZY EAST WINDS...ROUGH SEAS WILL
PERSIST FOR THE REST OF THE FORECAST PERIOD.
