SUBJECT:  Creation of a FLOOD-ONLY forecast point on the Leaf River
          at New Augusta, Mississippi, effective February 7 2017 at
          12 PM CST


...Creation of a FLOOD-ONLY forecast point on the Leaf River at New
Augusta, Mississippi effective February 7, 2017 at 12 PM CST...

The National Weather Service in Mobile along with the Lower
Mississippi River Forecast Center in Slidell, Louisiana, will begin
issuing FLOOD-ONLY forecasts for the Leaf River at New Augusta,
Mississippi /Site ID NAGM6/, effective Tuesday February 7, 2017 at
12 PM CST. The NWS in Mobile coordinated extensively with the Perry
County Emergency Management Agency to establish this new river
forecast point. By providing this forecast information, local
officials and the general public will have the opportunity to better
prepare for future flood events in the New Augusta area. This
furthers the NWS mission of protecting life and property.

The NWS will provide river forecasts when the observed or forecast
stage is at or above the action stage. In addition, the NWS will
issue River Flood Warnings and follow-up River Flood Statements on
the Leaf River at New Augusta.


* ACTION STAGE:                   17 FT.
* FLOOD STAGE AND MINOR FLOODING: 27 FT.
* MODERATE FLOODING:              30 FT.
* MAJOR FLOODING:                 35 FT.

The Leaf River at New Augusta is a real-time U.S. Geological Survey
/USGS/ stream gauge which provides stage and discharge data with a
period of record back to 1986. The current gauge is maintained buy
the USGS office in Jackson, Mississippi.


...Concluding Remarks... As with other NWS river forecast points,
river forecasts for the above location will be available on the NWS
Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service /AHPS/ website. In addition,
river forecasts for these locations will be updated as needed while
the river remains at or above the forecast issuance stage. At a
minimum, the river forecasts will be updated once per day in the
morning, when either the observed or forecasted stage is above the
ACTION stage.
