...MENDENHALL LAKE APPROACHING BANKFULL...

BASED ON THE RECENT STEADY RISE IN MENDENHALL LAKE LEVELS IT IS
LIKELY THAT A GLACIAL DAMMED LAKE ON THE MENDENHALL GLACIER IS
RELEASING WATER. THIS COMBINED WITH HEAVY RAIN OVER THE PAST 24
HOURS IS CAUSING WATER LEVELS TO RISE ON MENDENHALL LAKE AND
RIVER. THE LAKE IS CURRENTLY AT 7.5 FEET AS OF 715 AM AND RISING
STEADILY. WATER LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE RISING STEADILY
UNTIL THE GLACIER DAM LAKE IS COMPLETELY DRAINED. IF THE RELEASE
OF WATER CONTINUES THROUGHOUT THE DAY...THE LAKE AND RIVER LEVELS
WILL APPROACH BANKFULL OF 8.0 FEET LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND COULD
GO HIGHER OVERNIGHT. THERE IS A LOT OF UNCERTAINTY IN THIS EVENT
SO PLEASE STAY TUNED TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FOR UPDATES.

THIS STATEMENT WILL BE UPDATED BY 4 PM AKDT OR SOONER IF
CONDITIONS WARRANT.
