000 FZHW52 PHFO 200132 SRFHFO Surf Zone Forecast National Weather Service Honolulu HI 332 PM HST Thu Oct 19 2017 HIZ005>011-201445- Oahu- 332 PM HST Thu Oct 19 2017 ...HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR EAST FACING SHORES... Surf along north facing shores will be 5 to 8 feet this evening, rising to 8 to 11 feet Friday. Surf along west facing shores will be 3 to 5 feet this evening, rising to 5 to 8 feet Friday. Surf along south facing shores will be 2 to 3 feet through Friday. Surf along east facing shores will be 6 to 9 feet through Friday. Outlook through Thursday October 26: Dangerous beach conditions will continue along east facing shores through Friday due to strong onshore winds, rough surf and strong currents. Conditions are expected to gradually improve over the weekend as the trades ease and the surf trends down. A long-period north-northwest swell is expected to peak Friday, then ease into the weekend. This will become reinforced by a larger northwest swell Sunday through early next week. Heights will possibly reach advisory levels along north and west facing shores late Sunday through Monday. Surf is expected to build and possibly reach advisory levels once again over the weekend along south facing shores as a new long- period south-southwest swell fills in. For the outlook, surf along north and west facing shores will likely remain elevated through midweek due to an expected active period across the northern Pacific. Surf heights are forecast heights of the face, or front, of waves. The surf forecast is based on the significant wave height, the average height of the one third largest waves, at the locations of the largest breakers. Some waves may be more than twice as high as the significant wave height. Expect to encounter rip currents in or near any surf zone. $$
