A WINTRY MIX OF SLEET AND SNOW WILL CHANGE OVER TO A MIX OF SLEET
AND RAIN FOR THIS AFTERNOON. TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN IN THE 30S
WHICH WILL ALLOW FOR SOME LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS OF SLEET AND SNOW.
FOR LOCATIONS WHERE TEMPERATURES REMAIN BELOW FREEZING...UP TO A
TENTH OF AN INCH OF ICE MAY ACCUMULATE FROM FREEZING RAIN.

UNTREATED ROADS MY BE ICY...SO PLEASE USED EXTRA CAUTION IF
TRAVELING.

SNOW HAS ALREADY STARTED FALLING ACROSS THE NEW RIVER VALLEY AND
THE FOOTHILLS OF VA NEAR MARTINSVILLE...GENERALLY FROM HIGHWAY 58
NORTHWARD TO HIGHWAY 460. SNOW WILL BEGIN TO FALL IN THE ROANOKE
VALLEY BETWEEN NOON AND 1:00 PM. THE SNOW MAY ACCUMULATE UP TO AN
INCH BEFORE CHANGING OVER TO SLEET DURING THE AFTERNOON.
TEMPERATURES IN THE NEW RIVER VALLEY WILL REMAIN IN THE LOWER 30S
THROUGH THE AFTERNOON...THUS SUPPORTING SNOW AND SLEET
ACCUMULATION ON UNTREATED ROADS. TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER
ELEVATIONS...OR FOOTHILL COUNTIES EAST OF THE BLUE
RIDGE...INCLUDING ROCKY MOUNT...AND MARTINSVILLE...WILL HAVE
TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 30S...RESULTING IN LITTLE OR NO
ACCUMULATION ON THE ROADS.

IF TRAVELING THIS AFTERNOON...PLAN FOR EXTRA TIME. UNTREATED
ROADS...ESPECIALLY THOSE IN THE NEW RIVER VALLEY MAY BECOME
COVERED WITH A LAYER OF SNOW AND SLEET.

DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 3
INCHES ARE EXPECTED WEST OF THE BLUE RIDGE...THE HIGHER AMOUNTS
OCCURRING OVER THE VIRGINIA HIGHLANDS OF BATH...ALLEGHANY...AND
CRAIG...AND INTO THE GREENBRIER VALLEY OF WEST VIRGINIA.
TEMPERATURES IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN AT OR
BELOW FREEZING ALLOWING FOR SNOW AND SLEET TO ACCUMULATE ON
UNTREATED ROADS.

TRAVELERS THIS AFTERNOON SHOULD PLAN FOR SNOW COVERED
ROADS...ESPECIALLY IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS.
