...Public Information Statement...

Today, October 15th, marks the beginning of the fall fire
season for the State of Virginia. During the time period from
October 15th through November 30th, Virginia law prohibits outdoor
burning between the hours of midnight and 4 PM. This is particularly
important on elevated fire danger days, or when the conditions are
especially dry and windy.

Fall is a particularly dangerous time for burning, as dry leaves and
dry grasses combine with often warm, dry and windy weather to create
hazardous conditions for wildfires.

For more information concerning Virginia State fire laws, please
contact the Virginia Division of Forestry, or your local fire
department. If you see a fire burning out of control, call 911 or
your local fire department.
