...August was hotter and drier than normal for Tallahassee...

The average monthly temperature for August recorded at the
Tallahassee Regional Airport was 84.3 degrees, 2.5 degrees above
normal. The highest temperature recorded during the month was 98
degrees on the 13th and 22nd. The lowest temperature was 65 degrees
on the 27th. There were no records tied or broken during the month.

For climatological purposes, summer is defined as the 3-month period
from June through August. The average temperature for this past
summer was 84.0 degrees which makes it Tallahassee`s 4th hottest
summer on record.

Rainfall at the Tallahassee Regional Airport for August measured
6.07 inches, or 1.28 inches below normal. There were 16 days with
measurable rainfall during the month which was 1 above normal. The
greatest amount in a 24-hour period was 1.63 inches on the 20th.
There were 17 days with thunder at the airport which was 1 above
normal. The peak wind gust was 36 mph from the southwest on the 7th.

The outlook for September from the Climate Prediction Center calls
for experiencing above normal temperatures and equal chances for
above, normal, or below normal rainfall. The average monthly
temperature for September is 78.2 degrees and normal rainfall is
4.69 inches.
