Issued at 400 PM CDT Fri May 10 2024 A beautiful and dry weekend is on tap. Temperatures will be in the 70s each day with lows in the 50s. Showers and thunderstorms will return to the Mid-South on early Monday as an upper level system moves overhead. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will persist through midweek. && .DISCUSSION... (This evening through next Thursday) Issued at 400 PM CDT Fri May 10 2024 A gorgeous late spring day is ongoing across the Mid-South. Temperatures range from low to mid 70s under partly cloudy skies. Surface high pressure will continue to build into the Mid-South through Sunday. A couple of cool nights are on tap, with lows in the 50s. A few locations near the Tennessee River could briefly fall in the upper 50s. Return flow will set up across the region on Sunday with dewpoints rising into the upper 50s and lower 60s. A compact upper level low will move from the Four Corners Region and into the Lower Mississippi Valley by Monday morning. Simultaneously, a surface low will develop in the Southern Plains and move into the Mid-South region. This low will push a cold front slowly through the region Monday into Tuesday night. A few strong thunderstorms are possible, as instability is maximized in during the afternoon hours on Tuesday. Otherwise, any organized storms should remain to the south of the region. A brief dry day is expected on Wednesday before another shortwave moves through on Thursday and Friday. A cold front looks to move through late next weekend. AC3 && .AVIATION... North/northwest winds will remain gusty up to 20 kts behind a cold front through sunset. Winds will then become light and begin to shift west/northwest.
