Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
205 PM SST Mon Aug 21 2017

.Short term...
TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT...A broad area of high pressure to
the southeast continues to usher moderate to fresh easterlies
through the midweek. A low pressure to the south continues to move
eastward followed by another high pressure to the southwest.
Meanwhile, latest satellite imageries suggest there is a
developing surface trough to the east of the Manu`a Islands. This
surface trough is expected to move across the forecast area
Tuesday evening through Thursday morning. Therefore, expect partly
cloudy and gentle to moderate conditions to last through Tuesday
evening before the trough moves in. The surface trough will most
likely bring numerous to occasional showers and moderate to fresh
easterlies for the rest of the forecast period. Expect conditions
to be favorable for a flash flood watch.

.Long term...
THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY...The latter aforementioned high pressure
to the southwest will dominate the weather features for the rest
of the long term period. Moderate to fresh easterlies with
embedded showers will prevail for the rest of the long term as it
migrates eastward.

Wave Watch III model solutions still show sea heights above
threshold levels through Wednesday morning. Combined seas will
subside to 5 to 7 ft by Wednesday afternoon. Another set of
swells from the southeast will reach shores Friday afternoon.
Will continue the high surf and small craft advisories through
Wednesday morning.

A High Surf Advisory remains in effect
A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect
