AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION FOR AMERICAN SAMOA AND INDEPENDENT SAMOA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PAGO PAGO AS
134 PM SST SUN MAY 29 2016

.SHORT TERM...
.TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT...MODERATE TO FRESH TRADE-WINDS AND
ISOLATED SHOWERS WILL PREDOMINATE LOCAL CONDITIONS. A SURFACE RIDGE
TO THE SOUTH OF SAMOA AND TUTUILA WILL REMAIN NEARLY STATIONARY BEFORE
DRIFTING EASTWARD TUESDAY AFTERNOON. THIS WEATHER PHENOMENON COINCIDES
WITH AN EXISTING DRY SUBSIDENCE AIR ABOVE MANUA AND TUTUILA WESTWARD WHICH
WILL INFLUENCE LOCAL WEATHER TO REDUCE SHOWER COVERAGE ACROSS THE
REGION DURING THE COUPLE DAYS.

.LONG TERM...
.WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY...LOW-LEVEL CONVERGENCE WILL ENHANCE CLOUDS
AND RAINFALL ACTIVITY UPSTREAM THROUGH THE WEEKEND. A LARGE SCALE HIGH
PRESSURE SYSTEM WELL SOUTHWEST OF THE REGION WILL REINFORCED WIND SPEED
TO REMAIN NEAR 20 TO 25 KT STARTING SATURDAY EVENING. AS A RESULT...EXPECT
COOLER OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES AND ISOLATED TO SCATTERED TRADE-WIND
SHOWERS OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS.

&&

.MARINE...COMBINED SEAS OF 5 TO 7 FT WILL PERSIST OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL
DAYS. PERHAPS...AS THE TRADE-WIND REGIME STRENGTHENS AFTER WEDNESDAY...SEA
HEIGHTS WILL LIKELY BUILD TO NEAR BORDERLINE THRESHOLD. WILL MONITOR
THIS SITUATION AND MAKE UPDATES AS NEW MODELS BECOME AVAILABLE.

&&

.PPG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...

NONE.
