Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
104 PM SST Wed Jul 19 2017

.Short term...
TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT...A strong high pressure system far
south of the Samoan islands will maintain fresh easterlies across
the forecast area through the short term. Latest satellite imagery
shows a line of showers about 200 miles upstream of Manu`a islands.
Current model data show these showers moving across the territory
tonight. Hence, expect moderate to strong and gusty easterlies
with numerous showers tonight, with a slightly diminishing trend
in both winds and precipitation coverage thereafter.

.Long term...
SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY...Latest model solutions show a surface
ridge associated with the aforementioned high pressure to the
south of the Samoan islands. This ridge is forecast to move
eastward slowly. Hence, expect moderate easterlies to prevail
across the islands through the long term with passing showers.

.Marine...
Current Aunu`u wave buoy observations continue to show heights
exceeding advisory criteria in response to the strong easterlies.
Latest Wave Watch III solutions show a subsiding trend through the
week, but heights are not expected to fall below advisory
threshold until Monday. Hence, we anticipate to continue both
advisories for small crafts and high surfs through the weekend,
especially as we are expecting our next king tides:

For Tutuila, July 22 at 614 AM SST and July 23 at 707 AM SST
For Manu`a, July 22 at 549 AM SST and July 23 at 642 AM SST
