Weather Summary for the local Tri-State Region
National Weather Service New York NY
402 PM EST Sun Jan 22 2017

...Major Coastal Storm to impact the region Monday and Monday

Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate as a powerful and
dynamic storm develops across the Tennessee valley overnight. The
combination of this low pressure area, and an area of high pressure
across Southeast Canada, will create a tightening pressure gradient
as the storm intensifies. High winds will result, and there is a
high wind warning in effect for coastal sections, including New York
City beginning overnight.

The low pressure area is expected to translate to the mid Atlantic
coast during Monday and slowly move up and off the coast as it
strengthens. Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate during
Monday as winds increase, rain develops and becomes heavy.

Persistent onshore winds will pile up water and waves and minor
coastal flooding is likely. There may even be moderate coastal
flooding if the highest winds coincide to times of high tide.

Added to the storm will be the possibility of snow in the far
interior. Enough cold air is likely to infiltrate the northern
portions of the lower Hudson Valley to cause a period of sleet,
freezing rain and snow.

There are numerous hazards with this upcoming storm. It is highly
encouraged that you check with National Weather Service products and
forecasts before and during the storm.

Weather conditions are expected to start to improve during the day
