A cold front has swept through the area this morning...bringing
cooler and drier conditions to the region that will hold through
Friday. Once the cold air moves east Saturday...a strong return
of warm and moist air will spread over a large part of the Gulf
South onsetting Saturday afternoon and continuing through Monday
evening. The result will be a prolonged period of mainly moderate
rainfall over a 48 to 60 hour period.

At this time...the forecast rainfall amounts are in the 3 to 5
inch range for total accumulation spread out over the three day
period from Saturday afternoon Through Monday Evening. This will
cause area rivers to rise and potentially bring a few locations
close to flood stage...mainly along the streams that drain into
the tidal lakes and along the Mississippi Gulf coast.

based on contingency scenarios on the area rivers...the tangipahoa
river at robert...the bogue falaya river at covington and the wolf
river near lyman mississippi are indicated to approach flood
levels. this is contingent on the rainfall actually accumulating
to the expected amounts over the period of time indicated. other
rivers and streams will also be on the rise and will have to be
monitored for adjustments to actual rainfall.

The situation Will be closely monitored over the weekend. While
flash flooding is not imminent nor expected...some minor impacts
from river rises may result. Persons living near the area rivers
and streams should closely monitor the weather this weekend and be
prepared to take action in the event flood warnings become
necessary. A flood watch may be issued friday for all or portions
of southeast louisiana and southern Mississippi.
