...Fall Severe Weather Preparedness - Make a Plan - Build A Kit...

Having a plan is essential to your safety for tornadoes and other
severe weather phenomena.

1. Stay informed. Know the latest weather forecast and be prepared
to respond if severe weather is expected.

2. Have a severe weather kit. Try to assemble your kit
now...before an emergency. A kit should have enough
and supplies to last for at least 72 hours. Basic services such as
electricity, gas, water, and telephone may be off for days so your
kit should contain items to carry you through the period without
these services. For more details on your kit see

3. Ensure your NOAA Weather Radio is turned on, has fresh
batteries, and is programmed correctly.

4. Know where you will take shelter if a tornado warning or severe
thunderstorm warning is issued for your area.

5. Get involved. There are numerous opportunitties whereby you can
help your community be more prepared for severe weather. Contact
your local emergency management office for more information.
