Public Information Statement
National Weather Service Paducah, KY
927 AM CDT TUE SEP 13 2016

...FAA continues to work to restore communications for Paducah
Kentucky weather observations...

On September 10...a communication problem occurred between the
automated weather observation site at Barkley Regional Airport in
Paducah and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
communication network.

The FAA has been investigating the outage and have dispatched
technicians to resolve the communication issue.

In the meantime...dedicated air traffic control tower personnel at
Barkley Regional Airport have been calling in weather observations
to a regional FAA Aviation Center in Memphis Tennessee during normal
airport business hours.

The automated weather observation station at Barkley Regional
Airport continues to operate properly and provide radio and other
communications to the aviation community.

It should be understood that there is not any National Weather
Service maintenance issues with the Automated Weather Observation
System at Barkley Regional Airport...but with the transfer of
weather data into the FAA communication network.

We appreciate the efforts of the Barkley Regional Airport and the
FAA to provide weather observations to the public...while work
continues to restore routine telephone communications to the
automated weather observation site in Paducah.

Although the time to fully restore communications is unknown at this
time...we appreciate your understanding and patience while
communication repairs are in progress.
