...Elevated Risk of River Flooding Next Week...

The combination of snow melt, and upcoming rainfall early next
week, atop frozen ground, will lead to the potential for
sufficient runoff to cause minor to moderate flooding on rivers
across the region.

The rise on rivers will also force breakup of thick ice and may
lead to ice jams, especially near bridges and bends in rivers.
Lowland flooding may occur upstream of ice jams that form.
Furthermore, sudden release of ice jams may lead to rapid
downstream flash flooding, especially in vulnerable areas.

Residents along streams and rivers should remain alert to
potential flooding through late January. If you are in a flood
prone area, prepare now to place sandbag and prepare to move to
higher ground. Listen to NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards for the
latest flood watch and or warning information.
