Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Diego CA
900 PM PDT Sun May 12 2024

.SYNOPSIS...
Night and morning low clouds and fog will continue west of the
mountains this week. A few light showers may form over the mountains
Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Seasonally warm weather is
forecast Thursday and Friday.

.DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE...
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO
COUNTIES...

The high of 103 today at Borrego Springs, Palm Springs and Thermal
was one degree shy of the nation`s high of 104 at Death Valley.
Mountain highs today ranged from 65 to 75, valley highs were in the
70s and 80s, and coastal highs were in the mid to upper 60s.

A ridge over California this evening will drift east tonight,
replaced by a weak upper trough that will move across SoCal through
Wednesday. This trough will bring slight cooling west of the
mountains, but not much change in the deserts. The marine layer will
deepen a few hundred feet during this time. This trough draws in
enough mid-level moisture for cumulus clouds to form over the
mountains each afternoon that may be sufficient to trigger a shower
or two Tuesday and Wednesday.

The low moves east Wednesday night and weak ridging will bring a few
degrees of warming to the valleys, mountains and deserts Thursday
and Friday. Then another trough will bring minor cooling and a
deeper marine layer next weekend.
