.SHORT TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Issued at 351 AM CDT Mon May 13 2024

Lingering rain showers may be possible early this
morning, generally along and east of HWY 183, as showers rotate
around the sfc low that is slowly moving east.

The main concern in the short term will be increasing chances for
showers and thunderstorms ahead of a shortwave. The greatest threat
for thunderstorm development will generally be Tuesday afternoon
generally along HWY 61 and eastward, where the greatest instability
exist, 0 to 3 km CAPE values will be around 1000 J/kg or greater.
There will be a chance for an isolated chance for a strong and
perhaps severe storm during the afternoon and early evening hours.
Showers and thunderstorm chances will continue thorugh the overnight
into early in the day Wednesday.

With the wildfires in Canada and the upper level flow Monday
afternoon, did add a brief mention of near-sfc smoke into the
forecast for far north central Nebraska through the late afternoon.
There is the potential smoke could impact locations further west,
but at this moment confidence is low, so have kept the locations
across far north central.

down will only be brief though as temperatures rebound back into the
80s by Friday.

The next chance for precipitation comes towards the end of the
week with isolated chances Thu. and Fri. and a more scattered to
maybe even widespread chance on Saturday.
