SUBJECT:  PRELIMINARY FLOOD STAGES SET FOR 3 DAMS IN THE KETCHIKAN
          AREA. KETCHIKAN LAKES DAM /KDLA2/, CARLANA LAKE DAM /CARA2/ AND
           WHITMAN LAKE DAM /WLDA2/...AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY FOR A 30 DAY
           PUBLIC REVIEW.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN JUNEAU HAS ESTABLISHED FLOOD STAGES FOR 3
DAMS IN THE KETCHIKAN AREA. THE FLOOD STAGES WERE DETERMINED BY IMPACTS
OBSERVED FROM PREVIOUS FLOODING EVENTS DOWNSTREAM OF THE DAMS OR FROM LEVELS
THAT WOULD ACTIVATE THE EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN DUE TO HIGH WATER.

THESE FLOOD STAGES WILL BE EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 27 AFTER A PUBLIC REVIEW AND
COMMENT PERIOD OF 30 DAYS.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DEFINITIONS FOR FLOOD TERMS ARE AVAILABLE ON THE
WEB AT: HTTP://APRFC.ARH.NOAA.GOV/RESOURCES/DOCS/FLOODTERMS.PHP

WATER AT THESE LOCATIONS AND WILL MAKE APPROPRIATE CHANGES IF NECESSARY.
